As a dyslexic sometime words that seem synonymous can be confusing. I asked Grok to explain: Difference between complicated and complex systems
"A complicated system is highly detailed but ultimately predictable. It has many parts that interact in a linear, mechanical way, following clear rules. Think of a Swiss watch: it has hundreds of tiny gears and components, but each part’s function is known, and if you understand the design, you can predict its behavior or fix it by addressing a specific issue. Complicated systems can be mastered through analysis and expertise—like assembling a jet engine or solving a difficult math equation. They don’t adapt or change on their own; their behavior is stable and deterministic.
A complex system, on the other hand, is characterized by unpredictability and emergent behavior due to the dynamic, nonlinear interactions of its parts. These systems often adapt and evolve over time, making them harder to control or predict. A good example is a ...
I Will Be at My Desk
While the TV spews unrest,
and the birds sing from their nests,
the drumming sound of
“there is nothing going down” —
so, I'll be at my desk
It is not for us to fret,
to worry about what our eyes never met.
No matter where the poles may go,
that’s beyond our control.
There are no great pyramids in my time,
no ancient structures celestially aligned —
only beautiful software,
some of which I helped design.
In the age to come,
will anyone know what has been done?
As we descend
into an ancient cycle,
while the sun shines new colors —
perhaps we may all grow old.
All I know is, if you need me,
if things get out of control,
you’ll find me —
still, at my desk.
