@bretweinstein @heatherheying I'm sure you've caught this already, but for everyone else to know. And I have a question, I'll post here but also in the Q&A form, but I would rather you answered publicly than privately.

I expected him to tell a similar story to yours about "what cancer really is," and his version differs quite a bit. Could you reconcile these versions?

I'll recap my understanding of the two here.

Bret's: When you get injured, your cells reproduce faster in the local area to heal up. This consumes telomeres, shortening that cell line's ultimate lifespan. They somehow know when to quit healing, and turn off turbo-reproduction. Cancer is when that shut off signal never gets caught, and the cells turbo-repro indefinitely.

Patrick's: Your immune system (or possibly only the T-cell part of it) comes in two flavors, killer mode, and suppressor mode. Your body constantly recognizes threats and sends one team or the other. Cancer is when somehow a threat within your body that should be ...
